Patrimoine reconverti: du militaire au civil
The reorganization of the armed forces at the end of the 1980s gave rise to deep discussions on the future of military buildings which were no longer needed by the Ministry of Defence. These buildings (forts, urban walls, barracks...), even if they are not protected as Monument historique, merit preservation for the history and memories that they bear. However, re-use solutions need to be found for their conservation, mostly in agreement with municipalities and economic stakeholders. The book recounts the search for re-use solutions. These have taken many different forms such as the installation of the General Council in a former hospital in Nancy, the development of an economic area in Altkirch in Alsace, the creation of a stage School in a barracks in Moulins or even the set-up of a School for tax controllers in the fort Saint Jean in Lyons.
