Fortificaciones de Pamplona. Ciudades amuralladas: lugares para vivir, visitar e innovar

During the months of October and November 2012, the municipality of Pamplona organized a series of conferences on fortified towns. The conference proceedings published today recount the history of the twinned towns of Pamplona, in Spain, and Bayonne, in France. These meetings helped to trace the history of the construction, conservation and architectural evolution of these two towns, which have been reflecting together since the nineteen sixties on the best way to preserve and integrate their fortified heritage to current developments. The issue of urban and cultural tourism development so that it becomes a true economic product for the region is also addressed. In addition, participants in these conferences consider the link between fortified heritage and Europe, at a time where the construction of the European Union has changed our concept of borders.
