For over a decade now, the town ofPamplonahas been implementing a programme of preservation and conservation of its fortifications. This publication features the history and architecture of the town ofPamplonathrough a variety of different themes.

The universal value of the fortifications is highlighted in “La ciudad amurallada a travès de sus ingenieros militares”, which recounts the careers of 20 Italian, French and Flemish engineers. All of them stayed inPamplona during the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition to the biographical information, the book addresses the influence of Vauban’s work, and that of his predecessors and successors, on Spanish and American fortifications.
