The author, architect-town planner and specialist in fortified heritage, covers the work of Vauban using a spatial approach. The work is a demonstration of the account taken of the territorial and landscape context when defining the implantation and forms of fortifications over and above solely military objectives. The author has paid special attention to the project approach and to the economy of means.
